Your dog will have the time of its life at Newport Dog Park, a proper off-lead space where they can actually run without you having a heart attack every five seconds. It's the sort of place where you'll spend twenty minutes throwing a ball and your spaniel will decide that's the moment to become best mates with a terrier twice its size. Located just outside Shifnal, it's dead handy for anyone staying at Ted's Farm Caravan and Camping Site or High Onn Holiday Park - both are within a few miles, so you can pop over after breakfast without losing half the day to driving.

The park itself is straightforward: fenced area, good mix of grass and open space, and enough room that dogs aren't constantly bumping into each other. You'll see everything from Labradors destroying toys to nervous border collies stalking pigeons. It works best on weekday mornings when the chaos level is lower - weekends can get rammed, and if your dog's anxious around other animals, you might want to time your visit accordingly.

How long to stay? Realistically, an hour is plenty. Your dog will be absolutely knackered, which means a peaceful afternoon back at the caravan while you enjoy a cup of tea. It's free to use, and there's no fancy facilities - just the space itself. Not a destination you'd drive across the county for, but if you're already based at one of the nearby holiday parks with a dog in tow, it's worth knowing about. Beats paying for a dog walker.
