Norfolk Lavender

Purple fields stretching to the horizon - that's Norfolk Lavender in a nutshell. This working lavender farm sits just outside King's Lynn, turning acres of Norfolk into something that feels decidedly more Provence than East Anglia. You wander through the rows at your own pace, picking your moment to breathe in properly without feeling like you're posing for an Instagram shot.

The farm grows several lavender varieties, and depending on when you visit between June and August, you'll catch different stages of bloom. There's a farm shop selling the obvious suspects - dried bunches, lavender oil, sachets - but also some decent homemade bits. A tea room operates seasonally, which is handy if you've got kids in tow who'll need feeding halfway through.

It's genuinely low-key. You're not getting a formal tour or a gift shop the size of a supermarket. This is a proper working farm where people grow lavender and sell what they've made from it. Expect to spend an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're a slow walker or keen photographer. Families with young children often find it manageable since there's no steep terrain, though it's not exactly thrilling entertainment for a five-year-old.

Stay at one of the nearby parks - Heacham Beach Holiday Park is barely over a mile away - and you've got an easy morning visit before heading to the coast. Worth the detour if you're in the area during summer, though probably skip it in winter when the fields are bare.
