About Northward Hill
The walk up takes maybe 20 to 30 minutes depending on your pace and the route you choose. Once you're there, the vista opens out nicely across farmland and towards the Thames estuary. On a clear day you can see quite far, which makes it a decent reward for the climb. It's the sort of place walkers gravitate towards naturally, and families with kids old enough to enjoy a decent hike will find it satisfying without being punishing.
The hill itself is free to access - no ticket, no nonsense. The woodland paths are pleasant enough, though can get muddy after rain. Allow a couple of hours if you're taking it slowly and want time to sit and take in the view. Summer's probably your best bet, though autumn can be lovely too if the light's right.
If you're based at Haven Kent Coast Holiday Park or Thamesview Camping, this works well as a half-day excursion from your caravan or tent. It's close enough to Rochester that you could easily combine it with exploring the town itself - decent pubs, the cathedral, the usual Kent coastal amenities. Don't expect Snowdonia drama, but for a gentle elevation above the everyday, it does the job.
