Old Moor

The woodland at Old Moor spreads across East Yorkshire just outside Beverley, and it's the sort of place that rewards a proper wander rather than a quick lap. You're looking at mixed forest - enough variety to keep things interesting without needing a field guide. The paths are decent underfoot, mostly level, which makes it accessible for most fitness levels, though you'll want sturdy shoes after rain.

Walkers get the most from this spot. It's not dramatic or mountainous, but there's a genuine quiet to it that you don't get in town, and the canopy does what forests do best - makes you slow down. Birdwatchers occasionally have a field day here depending on the season. Families with younger kids will find it manageable for an hour or so, though it's not the sort of place with waymarked trails or interpretation boards, so don't expect entertainment laid on.

If you're staying at Butt Farm Caravan, Campsite & Glamping just down the road, Old Moor makes an easy morning or late-afternoon detour. It's close enough to Beverley that you could combine it with poking around the town's Georgian streets. Cherry Burton Leisure Park is a bit further out but still within striking distance if you're based there.

The lack of formal facilities means it's really just you, the trees, and whatever weather Yorkshire throws at you. That's either its charm or its limitation, depending on what you're after.
