The walk itself is pleasant enough - you're moving through countryside between Hitchin and the surrounding villages, so it's worth combining with a longer ramble rather than treating it as a destination in itself.

Access and facilities are basic; there's no admission charge, but equally no official opening hours or visitor infrastructure to speak of. Best visited in spring or autumn when the undergrowth isn't too thick and you can actually see the architectural detail. If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Almshoe Glamping or Jacks Hill Caravans are closest at under two miles - it makes a solid half-day outing. Just go with low expectations and you'll find something genuinely atmospheric. Bring a decent camera and good walking boots.
