Osier Holt

A strip of woodland just outside Lincoln that's quietly doing its thing without any fuss or visitor infrastructure to speak of. Osier Holt is small - you're looking at a proper walk-through rather than a full afternoon's expedition - but it's the sort of place that rewards anyone who actually gets out and looks at what's growing there.

The site takes its name from the willows that once dominated the area. You'll still find them dotted about, along with other wetland trees that thrive in this bit of Lincolnshire's damper landscape. If you're into plants or just fancy a green walk away from roads, it's worth the detour. Bird watchers tend to find things here too, especially if you time it right in spring or autumn.

There's no visitor centre, no car park with facilities, nothing fancy - which is either brilliant or a complete bore depending on what you want. For a quick leg-stretch between other activities, or if you're staying at Spire View Meadow glamping just 6 miles away, it's a solid addition to your plans. Bring waterproofs though. The ground can be boggy, particularly after rain, and you'll need proper footwear.

Allow an hour maximum, less if you're just passing through. It's free and accessible whenever you fancy it. Not the sort of place that will blow your mind, but perfectly pleasant if you're in the area and want something low-key and green.
