Pen Yr Heol Chapel

You'll find Pen Yr Heol Chapel tucked away in the Powys hills, a small stone chapel that speaks quietly to anyone who bothers to seek it out. It's a proper Welsh country church - the kind of place where time moves differently and you can hear nothing but the wind and whatever's happening in the fields nearby.

The chapel itself is modest. Stone walls, a simple interior, the sort of building that was built to serve a scattered farming community rather than impress anyone. The Olchon Valley Campsite, a bit further out, gives you access to some cracking walking country too.

Access details are thin on the ground - you'll want to check locally whether it's open to visitors. But if you're already in the area exploring the borderlands between Wales and Hereford, it's the kind of detour that costs you nothing except time, and that's usually the best sort.
