Pencoed-Y-Foel

The walk up Pencoed-Y-Foel rewards you with proper views across the Ceredigion hills - that stretch of West Wales where the landscape rolls on and on until it hits the horizon. It's not a towering peak, but the climb from Llandysul is steep enough to earn those views without becoming a full slog. The summit itself is fairly bare, which means you get unobstructed sight lines back towards the Teifi Valley.

This is walker country, full stop. If you're after a gentle stroll with interpretive boards, look elsewhere. But if you've got decent boots and an hour or so free, it's the sort of walk that justifies the trip - the kind where you sit at the top, eat a sandwich, and remember why you came to Wales in the first place.

The nearest base is Llandysul, a small market town that won't blow your mind but serves decent pub food and has the essentials. If you're staying at one of the local glamping spots - Thistledown, The Hiveaway, or Let's Glamp Retro are all within a few miles - Pencoed-Y-Foel works perfectly as a morning's activity. Fit it in before lunch, or tackle it late afternoon if you want to catch the light changing across the valleys.

Free to visit, free to explore. No facilities at the summit, so bring water. The path itself can be muddy after rain, which happens fairly regularly around here. Go on a clear day if you can - cloud cover turns this into a rather pointless trudge.
