Penmorfa Chapel

A small Welsh chapel tucked away in the Ceredigion countryside near Llandysul, Penmorfa Chapel is the sort of place you'll drive past and nearly miss - and that's rather the point. It's a proper working church, modest and unassuming, with the kind of quiet that only old stone buildings manage. The interior is simple, straightforward, the sort of space where you can actually hear yourself think.

This isn't a tourist attraction in the conventional sense. There's no gift shop, no interpretation boards, no timed entry slots. You turn up, you look around, you move on. That said, if you're into Welsh religious architecture or just enjoy the peace of old chapels, it's worth the detour from Llandysul. The setting is lovely - rolling Welsh hills, proper countryside - and it makes for a decent leg-stretch if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks like Brynawelon or Llety, both within a couple of miles.

Give it 20 minutes, maybe half an hour if you're the contemplative type. It's free, obviously. Best to check locally whether it's actually open when you visit - rural chapels can be temperamental about access. If you're camping in the area and looking for a quiet walk combining a bit of history with decent views, this works. It won't take your breath away, but it's genuine and underdeveloped in a way that feels increasingly rare.
