Pink's Hill

You'll find Pink's Hill just outside Guildford, a modest peak that packs more charm than its height suggests. At around 250 metres, it's hardly Alpine, but the walk up rewards you with proper views across the Surrey Hills - on a clear day you can see right across to the North Downs. The summit itself is straightforward to reach on foot, taking about an hour from the base depending on your route and fitness level.

This is walker territory, full stop. History buffs might appreciate the old commons land history, but don't expect ruins or monuments - you're coming for the walk and the air, not Instagram moments. Families with young kids could manage it as a gentle outing, though you'll need them reasonably confident on uneven ground. The real draw is using Pink's Hill as part of a longer ramble through the Surrey Hills - it works brilliantly paired with walks across nearby commons and woodland.

If you're staying at one of the local parks like Wyldecrest Surrey Hills or Chapel Farm, both within a mile and a half, you could knock this out as a morning exercise before settling into holiday mode. Chantry Wood Campsite, about four miles away, also makes a sensible base. There's no charge to access the hill itself - it's open access land - and you don't need to book anything. Go early or midweek if you want peace; weekends see proper footfall from Guildford residents. Reasonable shoes essential, especially after rain when it gets boggy.
