The town itself has that comfortable market town feel - decent shops, good pubs, and the sort of cathedral that doesn't try too hard to impress. What makes it special is the landscape surrounding it. You're close enough to nip into town for supplies or a proper meal, but far enough out to wake up to birdsong rather than traffic. The surrounding countryside practically begs to be explored on foot, and having a base among the hills beats any town centre hotel.
