Porth Clais Harbour

The little harbour sits tucked into a fold of the Pembrokeshire coast near Haverfordwest, where the Alun stream runs down to meet the sea. It's a working marina - proper modest affair, nothing flashy - with a scatter of fishing boats and small leisure craft bobbing about depending on the tide. The village itself is tiny, really just a handful of houses and a pub, but that's rather the point.

You get decent views across the water, and the coastal path runs right past, so most visitors are walkers pausing for breath rather than people coming specifically for the harbour. The beach access is straightforward enough if you're camping nearby at Caerfai Bay or Rhosson. The walk down to the water takes about ten minutes from the car park, which is gentle terrain - good for families who don't fancy a massive trek.

It's free to have a look around, obviously. Don't expect facilities beyond what the pub might offer. The real appeal here is that it feels untouched - no ice cream vans, no coach parties, no souvenir tat. The light's lovely in the late afternoon, and photographers do come for that reason alone.

If you're based at one of the caravan parks within walking distance - Caerfai Bay and Rhosson are barely a mile away - it's the sort of place to potter to on a quiet morning or evening, not a destination in itself. Worth an hour if you're in the area, but don't go out of your way specially.
