Poser Buttress

Scrambling up the rocky outcrop that forms Poser Buttress, you'll understand why climbers flock here. This limestone cliff face on the Gower Peninsula serves up some proper dramatic coastal views once you reach the top. The name might sound a bit daft, but the panorama across Oxwich Bay and the Bristol Channel is anything but.

Climbers obviously get the most from this spot - the buttress offers various routes up its face, from gentle scrambles to more technical climbs. But even if you're not into ropes and harnesses, the walk up from Oxwich village rewards you with cracking views. Families with older kids who don't mind a bit of scrambling will find it well worth the effort.

Timing matters here. Come at sunset and you'll catch the light hitting Three Cliffs Bay in the distance, though it can get busy with photographers. The climb itself takes about twenty minutes from the car park near Oxwich Castle, and it's free to access year-round.
