Queens Rock

There's a proper dramatic chunk of Yorkshire coast where Queens Rock juts out of the chalk cliffs just outside Bridlington, and it's worth hunting down if you're staying in the area. The rock itself is a distinctive sea stack - a natural pillar that's been carved away from the main cliff face by years of wave action - and it sits just offshore where the white cliffs meet the North Sea.

It's the sort of place where you can see why locals have named and remembered it. The walk down to view it properly takes maybe fifteen minutes from the clifftop, depending on which path you take, and the best light is morning when the sun hits the stack properly. Walkers and photographers get the most from it - coastal enthusiasts will recognise the geological drama straightaway, but honestly, kids might lose interest after ten minutes unless they're into rocks and geology.

There's no visitor centre or tea shop here, which is fine - it's not that sort of attraction. It's free to access, and there are no formal opening hours to worry about. Combine it with a walk along the Flamborough Head coastline, which has proper clifftop paths and decent views towards Filey Bay. If you're parked at Haven Thornwick Bay Holiday Village or Flamborough Glamping & Vineyard, you're perfectly placed - both are less than two miles away, so it's an easy morning expedition before heading into Bridlington proper for lunch.
