Robin Lythes Hole

The entrance is easy to miss if you're not paying attention - just a gaping mouth in the chalky cliff face near Bridlington, accessible via a coastal path that's well-trodden but requires a bit of scrambling. Robin Lythes Hole is a proper seaside cave, the sort of place that rewards curiosity rather than expecting you with gift shops and marked walkways. Inside, it's genuinely atmospheric: the cave extends back far enough to feel like an adventure, though you'll want a torch because daylight only penetrates so far. The chalk walls have that distinctive pale, almost cream colour, and at high tide the cave fills partially with seawater, so timing matters. Geologically it's worth a look if you're into coastal erosion and cave formation - the whole stretch of Flamborough Head is riddled with these formations. For families with kids old enough not to panic in enclosed spaces, it's an excellent half-hour detour during a coastal walk. The sea cliffs around here are dramatic regardless, so even if the cave itself doesn't grip you, the scenery is strong.
