The name alone made me smile - Robin-a-Tiptoe Hill is one of those Leicestershire landmarks that sounds far more whimsical than it probably deserves. It's a modest peak on the outskirts of Leicester, the sort of spot locals know well but visitors often miss entirely. The walk up takes maybe twenty minutes depending on your pace, and the views across the Midlands are genuinely decent - rolling countryside rather than dramatic vistas, but proper restorative after an hour in the city centre.

It works best for walkers tackling the longer trails through Leicestershire's green spaces. Children might find the climb a bit uninspiring unless you make a game of the name - my kids were at least entertained by that. Bring a map or a decent OS app because signage is, shall we say, minimal.

If you're basing yourself at one of the nearby parks - Emily's Cut is closest at just over a mile - this is exactly the sort of local exploration that makes a camping holiday worthwhile. It's free, obviously, and there's no faff with opening hours or admission fees. Go early morning if you can; you'll likely have the place to yourself. It's not a destination in its own right, but as part of a broader Leicestershire walking loop with Leicester itself just down the road, it ticks the box nicely. The real appeal is the walking itself rather than some grand panorama at the summit.
