Rushout Wood

A proper woodland walk through Sussex countryside, Rushout Wood sits just outside Pulborough and delivers exactly what you'd hope for from a forest - decent paths, tall trees, and enough space to actually feel away from things. The woodland floor is thick with leaf litter, and there are enough mature oaks and beeches to make it interesting without being showy about it.

You won't find visitor facilities or much in the way of interpretation boards here, which is either a blessing or a nuisance depending on your view. Families with younger kids might get an hour out of it before they're restless; keen walkers will appreciate it as part of a longer ramble through the area rather than a destination in itself. The paths are generally manageable underfoot, though it can get boggy after rain.

It's the kind of place that works best as an add-on to a stay at one of the nearby glamping sites like Wakestone & Wild or the Graffham Camping Club ground. If you're based at Woodfire at Westerlands, it's practically on your doorstep. The Pulborough area has some cracking countryside around it, and this wood slots in nicely as a quick stretch of the legs between other activities.

Go midweek if you want peace and quiet. Weekends can feel busier than you'd expect for somewhere so unpretentious. Allow an hour for a gentle walk, longer if you're the type to stop and identify things.
