Seabrook Beach

The shingle beach at Seabrook runs long and straight, backed by sea defences and the kind of wide-open Kent coastline that feels properly removed from the usual seaside crowds. You get decent views across the Channel when the weather cooperates, and the beach itself is the main draw - fine for a paddle, a walk, or simply sitting with a flask watching the light change across the water.

It's the sort of place families camp nearby and walk down to for an hour or two rather than make a dedicated trip. The holiday parks at New Beach and Daleacres are within easy reach, which makes sense - you're not here for attractions or facilities, but for the uncluttered strand itself. The shingle can be relentless on the feet, mind you, so proper shoes are worth bringing.

If you're based in Kent for a caravan holiday, Seabrook works as a half-morning stop between Canterbury and the larger Folkestone beaches. The walk along the shore takes as long as you fancy. There's no promenade infrastructure to speak of, which is either refreshing or slightly dull depending on your mood and the weather. On a grey day it can feel a touch bleak; catch it in decent light and it's a proper stretch of English seaside. Free to visit, obviously - it's a beach. Allow an hour or two if you've got young children keen on rock pools, less if you're just after a constitutional walk.
