A working studio and gallery just outside Tring that actually feels like you've stumbled into someone's creative space rather than wandered into a polished tourist trap. Skevi is part shop, part exhibition space, and entirely the kind of place where you can watch artists at work if you time it right.

The setup is straightforward: you get to see contemporary art and craft pieces displayed properly, browse the shop for things that aren't the usual high street tat, and occasionally catch the makers actually creating. It's small enough that you won't need hours here, but substantial enough to justify the drive from your accommodation. The vibe is deliberately unpretentious, which appeals to people who like art but hate the stuffiness of bigger galleries.

Families with older kids will get more out of it than those with toddlers in tow, mainly because there's not much interactive stuff and the space doesn't sprawl. History buffs and anyone interested in contemporary craftsmanship will find it worthwhile though. If you're camped at Chiltern Yurts or Hill Farm just down the road, it's a natural half-hour diversion on a drizzly afternoon.

The Tring area itself has decent walks through the Chilterns, so you could easily combine this with a park stay and some proper countryside rambling. Ring ahead for opening times and what's actually on - galleries this size often keep odd hours and sometimes close between exhibitions.
