St. Mary and All Saints' Church, Kidderminster

The church dominates Kidderminster's town centre - you can't miss the tower rising above the high street. What strikes you first is the sheer age of the place. St. Mary and All Saints' has been here since medieval times, though what you see today is largely Victorian restoration work that's actually rather well done.

Inside, it's properly impressive. The nave is spacious and light, with decent stained glass and some genuinely interesting monuments scattered about if you're into that sort of thing. The woodwork is solid, the sort of craftsmanship you don't see much anymore. It's a working parish church, so you'll get a real sense of how these places actually function - not just a museum piece.

Histor buffs will spend a good half hour in here. Families with fidgety kids might manage twenty minutes, though the sheer scale of the interior keeps most people engaged longer than expected. Entry is free, as is almost always the case with parish churches.

It works well alongside a longer Worcestershire trip. Kidderminster itself has decent high street shops and cafes, making it easy to combine a church visit with lunch. Several caravan parks sit within a couple of miles - Wolverley Camping is practically on the doorstep at 1.4 miles, while Pinewood Retreat and Blackstone Meadow offer a bit more distance if you prefer quieter surroundings. The town's position in the Severn Valley means you're well-placed for exploring the broader area without much faffing about with drives.
