Stanford Hall

Stanford Hall itself is the draw here - a proper Jacobean mansion set in 300 acres of parkland just outside Lutterworth. Inside you'll find period rooms, a working kitchen museum, and collections that span from the 17th century onwards. It's one of those places where you actually feel like you're stepping into someone's home rather than trudging through a stuffy museum.

The grounds are where families tend to spend the real time. There's a lake, woodland walks, and enough space for kids to properly stretch their legs without annoying anyone. The motor museum appeals to a certain crowd, though frankly it's a bit of an afterthought compared to the main house. Allow a good three to four hours if you're doing both the hall and a decent walk.

Car enthusiasts and history types will get the most from it. Families with younger children might find the interior a touch long-winded, but the grounds make up for it. The site has excellent caravan facilities right there - Caravan Park at Stanford Hall is basically on the doorstep - which makes this a sensible stopping point if you're touring the Midlands. You can pitch up and explore at your own pace without the stress of driving between attractions.

Best to phone ahead about opening hours and admission charges. It's not the kind of place that stays consistently open year-round, and prices vary depending on what you want to see.
