Stock Copse

Stock Copse is a proper woodland walk just outside Petersfield, the kind of place that rewards a morning ramble without demanding much in the way of planning. You're in among beech and oak, with a decent network of trails that take you through the forest floor - it's peaceful stuff, genuinely quiet if you time it right.

The walk itself is straightforward. Nothing dramatic, no viewpoints that'll make you gasp, but there's something restorative about being surrounded by tall trees and listening to the woodland. You can knock out a circular route in an hour or so, or potter about longer if you're in no rush. Families with primary-age kids will find it engaging enough - there's exploration to be done, the odd fallen log to clamber over, and if you're lucky you might spot deer. Teenagers might find it a bit dull unless they're into actual walking.

For a park holiday in the area, Stock Copse slots in nicely as a half-morning activity. Woodlands Camping is barely two miles away, and Hampshire Hills (formerly Two Hoots) is just over four miles south - either would work as a base. Neither park needs to be the main event; treat Stock Copse as part of a broader Petersfield exploring day. The nearby town has enough cafes and shops to break up a longer visit. Go on a weekday if you want it to yourself. Muddy boots guaranteed in winter.
