Stockdale Plantation sits just outside Skipton, a proper woodland walk that doesn't require booking or faffing about with entry fees. It's Lancashire forestry at its most straightforward - dense trees, clear paths, the occasional stream cutting through - and it works brilliantly if you're after a couple of hours away from everything without driving miles.

The woodland is dense enough that you actually feel tucked away, even though you're never far from civilisation. Bring decent boots if it's been wet; the ground gets boggy in patches. The walk suits families with older kids and regular hikers far more than toddlers or anyone wanting café stops and interpretation boards. Count on two to three hours if you're taking it at a proper pace and want to explore the various routes rather than rush through.

What makes it work as part of a park holiday is the proximity to some seriously good glamping options. Higher Grange Glamping sits just four miles away, and Trawden Forest Glamping is barely further. Both have solid five-star ratings, so you can stay somewhere genuinely nice and still have easy access to proper woodland without it feeling like a tourist trap.

The real question: is it worth the detour if you're already in the area? Yes. Is it worth a special trip from Manchester? Probably not when there's Pendle Hill and the Yorkshire Three Peaks nearby. But as a quiet morning walk before heading to Skipton's market square for lunch, it's proper value.
