Stockings Meadow Nature Reserve

A proper walk through Stockings Meadow Nature Reserve, just outside Bromyard, gets you away from the caravan parks and into something real. This is grassland and woodland with genuine conservation work happening - the kind of place where you might spot butterflies, birds, and plants that don't make it into tourist brochures. It's the sort of reserve that appeals to people who actually like walking, not just ticking off attractions.

The meadow itself is open and rolling, with woodland edges that provide shelter and shade. Spring brings wildflowers; summer brings insects worth watching if you're into that sort of thing. Walking boots matter here - the ground can be muddy, and paths aren't manicured. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you want to do the reserve properly, though you could walk it faster.

It's free, which is rare enough to mention. No visitor centre, no shop, no facilities that I'm aware of - just the land itself. That makes it proper countryside rather than countryside-lite. Families with older kids who don't mind getting their boots dirty will get more from it than those expecting a gentle stroll with benches every hundred metres.

Stay at The Rock Caravan Park just 1.3 miles away, or any of the holiday parks dotted around Bromyard, and this makes a solid half-day walk. It's not dramatic or famous, but that's exactly the point. You'll have the paths largely to yourself.
