Sunny Bank Park

The woodland at Sunny Bank Park near Brewood feels properly wild for somewhere so close to civilisation. You're walking through dense tree cover with streams cutting through, the kind of place where you actually forget the Midlands sprawl is just beyond the boundary. It's a nature reserve rather than a manicured country park, so expect muddy paths and proper undergrowth rather than neat lawns.

What makes it worth the visit is the variety crammed into a relatively small space. Woodland birds, if you're patient enough to spot them, plus the stream habitats that draw in all sorts of life. The walks are gentle - nothing that'll knacker you - and you can get round comfortably in under two hours. Bring proper boots though; after rain it's basically bog in places.

This is one for walkers and anyone genuinely interested in what the local ecosystem actually looks like, not casual strollers after a twenty-minute wander. Kids who are into nature hunting will enjoy it; those after adventure park thrills will find it dull. Come during spring or autumn when the woodland's most active.

If you're based at Oakland Holiday Park or High Onn just down the road - both a quick couple of miles away - it makes a proper half-day outing that doesn't require going far from the caravan. Free access as far as I can tell, though it's worth checking locally. Ted's Farm and Ladybirch are further afield but still manageable if you're exploring the wider area.
