Tan Tŵr

The walk up to Tan Tŵr takes you through proper Snowdonia terrain - moorland that feels genuinely wild, with views across the Menai Strait opening up as you climb. It's a nature reserve rather than a manicured visitor attraction, which means you get the landscape as it actually is, not smoothed over for tourists.

What you're really after here is the vantage point itself. On a clear day you can see right across to Anglesey and out towards the Irish Sea. The moorland's got heather, bilberry, and rough grassland that changes colour through the seasons - autumn's particularly decent if the weather holds. The path isn't demanding, but it's uneven underfoot and exposed, so proper boots matter.

This works best for walkers with some experience rather than casual strollers, and anyone interested in upland habitats will find plenty to notice. Kids will manage it fine if they're used to being outdoors, though there's no facilities or shelter up there - bring weather-appropriate kit and water.

Stay at Ogwen Bank Caravan and Lodge Park, just under a mile away, and you've got an easy base for exploring the broader Snowdonia area. Llanberis Touring Park is another solid option if you want to be closer to Llanberis itself. The reserve ties in well with the walking culture of the region - this isn't a standalone destination, it's part of a larger network of paths and peaks worth exploring.
