The Game Covert

Deep in the Shropshire woodlands near Bridgnorth sits The Game Covert, a proper chunk of working forest that feels miles from anywhere despite being just a short drive from town. This isn't a manicured nature reserve with interpretation boards and gift shops - it's genuinely wild woodland where you're more likely to spot deer and pheasant than other visitors.

You can walk through here without any particular agenda, which is rather the point. The paths wind between mature trees, the light filters through the canopy in that particular way that makes you feel properly away from it all. If you're staying at Wheathill Touring Park, The Game Covert makes a cracking half-day excursion. Close enough that you won't spend ages driving, far enough in that you'll feel properly immersed in greenery. The Bridgnorth area has plenty of other woodland walks too, but this one punches above its weight for peace and quiet.
