About The Ghosties
It's not a spectacle like some of Scotland's more famous reserves. There are no dramatic viewpoints or visitor centres with gift shops. What you get instead is peace and proper walking, the kind where you might actually hear something besides other tourists. The paths are straightforward enough for families with older kids, though younger ones might find it slow going if they're expecting an easy loop.
The reserve works brilliantly as part of a wider Renfrewshire break, especially if you're staying at The Pods at Auchenhean just down the road - five miles or so separates you from Milton, the nearest town, so you're in proper countryside but not stranded. Allow two hours minimum if you want to see anything worthwhile. Spring and early summer are when it's most rewarding for wildlife. Winter's quieter, which some folk prefer.
Worth the detour if you like your nature reserves working rather than looking pretty. Skip it if you need facilities or facilities or dramatic scenery.
