The Pends

The Pends is a proper medieval gateway that once controlled access to St Andrews from the south. It's a squat, sturdy bit of stonework that's been standing since the 14th century, and what's remarkable is how little it's changed. You can walk right through it on South Street - no drama, no ticket booth, just medieval architecture doing what it's always done.

What you get is about ten minutes of wandering around the archway itself, reading the weathered carvings and imagining how much has passed under this same threshold over six hundred years.
