Tiddle's Copse

A proper woodland walk through mixed forest that sits just outside Petersfield - the sort of place locals know but visitors often miss. Tiddle's Copse is straightforward: ancient beech and oak trees, a handful of well-worn footpaths, and the kind of quiet you don't get near roads.

What makes it work is the simplicity. No visitor centre, no cafe, no entrance fee nonsense. You park up, pick a route, and walk. The canopy is thick enough to feel properly forested even in summer, and the forest floor is soft underfoot. It's ideal for a couple of hours, whether you're a proper hiker or just fancy a break from the caravan.

Families with older kids will get more out of it than toddlers - there's proper woodland to explore, fallen logs to clamber over, the occasional patch of bluebells if you time it right in spring. It's not a destination in itself, but combined with Woodlands Camping or Hampshire Hills (both within easy reach), it fills a gap on a rainy morning or late afternoon when you want to stretch your legs without committing to a full-day walk.

Best visited autumn or spring when the undergrowth isn't too dense and the temperature doesn't push you into a bad mood. Bring proper boots - it gets boggy in places. Petersfield itself has shops and a decent high street if you need supplies, but Tiddle's Copse is really about disconnecting, not consuming.
