Tom Hill sits just outside Knaresborough, a proper woodland walk rather than a visitor attraction with facilities. You're looking at mixed woodland with decent views toward the valley - nothing that'll stop you mid-breath, but good enough to justify the leg-stretch if you're camped nearby at Knaresborough Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite.

The walk itself is straightforward. Local folk use it as a quick morning circuit, maybe 45 minutes to an hour depending on your pace and how many times you stop to check your phone. The path's well-trodden but can be muddy after rain - proper hiking boots aren't essential, but they help. Kids will find it manageable without complaint, though it's not thrilling enough to keep under-tens entertained for long.

Timing-wise, spring and autumn are nicest. Summer can feel a bit heavy under the tree cover, and winter's fine if you don't mind the shorter daylight. There's no entrance fee because there's no gate - you just go. No facilities either, so grab supplies in Knaresborough before heading out.

If you're already at the caravan site and want a leg-stretch without driving anywhere, Tom Hill works. It's the sort of place you'd slot in between breakfast and lunch, not something to plan your whole day around. The woodland's pleasant enough, but it won't rival the bigger walks nearby. Still, it beats sitting in the van.
