Top of the Gorge

Climbing up from Cheddar village, the path to this viewpoint isn't for the faint-hearted, but the payoff is extraordinary. You're looking down into the famous Cheddar Gorge from above - a completely different perspective from the usual tourist route along the bottom.

The view stretches across the Mendip Hills and down into the dramatic limestone cliffs that make this gorge Britain's deepest. On a clear day, you can see for miles across Somerset's countryside. It's particularly stunning in late afternoon when the light catches the rock faces.
