Traeth Llydan

Waves crash against a surprisingly unspoilt stretch of Anglesey's coastline at this broad sandy beach near Pentre. The name translates as 'Wide Beach' in Welsh, which is spot on - there's proper space here to spread out even on busy summer days.

Families with young children will appreciate the gently shelving sand, though the Atlantic rollers can get lively when the wind picks up. Dog walkers have found their slice of heaven here too, with miles of firm sand perfect for energetic spaniels and the odd brave soul going for a dip.

From Silver Bay Holiday Park, just over half a mile away, it's an easy walk down to the shore. The beach faces west, making it brilliant for evening light if you're into photography - though don't expect facilities beyond what nature provides.

Rock pooling keeps the kids occupied at low tide, particularly around the southern end where the geology gets interesting. Give yourself a couple of hours minimum if you want to properly explore, though dedicated beachcombers could easily lose half a day here.

Access involves a bit of coastal path walking, so probably not one for pushchairs or anyone with mobility issues. Worth checking tide times too - some sections get cut off at high water.
