Getting down to this slice of Cardigan Bay requires proper commitment - a steep scramble through bracken and brambles that'll have you questioning your footwear choices. But once you reach the sand, you'll understand why locals keep this spot relatively quiet. The beach curves away beneath dramatic cliffs, with rock pools that keep children entertained for hours when the tide's out.

Families staying at nearby holiday parks like Ocean Heights or Haven Quay West often make the trek here to escape the crowds that pack New Quay's main beaches during summer. It's wild swimming territory for the brave - the water's properly cold even in July, but refreshingly clean. Dog walkers love it too, as there's plenty of space for four-legged friends to charge about off the lead.

Timing matters here. High tide swallows most of the beach, leaving just a narrow strip of shingle. Come at low tide and you'll have acres of firm sand perfect for impromptu cricket matches. The walk back up is a proper workout, so factor in recovery time if you're planning lunch in New Quay afterwards. Worth the effort though, especially if you're after that proper Welsh coast experience without the car parks and ice cream vans.
