Trefwri 1 Menhir Standing Stone

Four thousand years ago, someone decided this spot deserved a monument. The single standing stone at Trefwri stands about eight feet tall in a field near Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, weathered smooth by millennia of Welsh weather but still impressively upright.

This isn't a stone circle or dramatic burial chamber - just one solitary menhir doing what it's done since the Bronze Age. The stone sits in farmland, so you'll need to respect the local access arrangements and probably navigate a gate or two. Takes about ten minutes to walk out, admire it, wonder what on earth possessed our ancestors to haul such a massive lump of rock here, then walk back.

History enthusiasts will appreciate the antiquity, though kids might find a single stone less thrilling than promised. The real appeal lies in that connection to deep time - standing where people stood when Stonehenge was still being built.

Accessible from several holiday parks in the area, including Anglesey Holiday Pods just half a mile away or Plas Coch Holiday Park a couple of miles south. Makes for a pleasant short walk if you're staying nearby, though hardly worth a special journey unless you're ticking off Anglesey's ancient sites. Free to visit, assuming you can find legitimate access through the farmland.
