Trefwri 2 Menhir Standing Stone

Two weathered stone sentinels stand in an Anglesey field, marking territory claimed thousands of years before Romans ever set foot in Britain. The Trefwri 2 Menhir consists of a pair of standing stones that have survived Bronze Age storms, medieval farmers, and modern development to reach us largely intact.

Archaeology enthusiasts will appreciate their modest grandeur - these aren't Stonehenge, but they're properly atmospheric on a grey Welsh morning. The larger stone reaches about eight feet, while its companion stands slightly shorter, both rough-hewn from local rock. Access appears to be free and unrestricted, though you'll want to respect the farmland setting. Twenty minutes is plenty unless you're sketching or photographing seriously. The stones work well as a quick cultural detour if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Plas Coch or Coed Helen Holiday Park - both are within easy driving distance.

Timing matters little since they're always 'open', but the light's particularly good in late afternoon when the stones cast long shadows across the grass. Worth combining with other Anglesey ancient sites if you're on a prehistoric trail, but don't expect crowds or facilities - just you, the stones, and several millennia of Welsh history.
