Trinity Baptist Church, Tenterden

The church sits bang in the middle of Tenterden's high street, and you can't miss its red-brick Victorian bulk once you're wandering through town. This is proper nonconformist architecture - built in the 1880s when Baptist chapels were serious business, not an afterthought. Inside, the layout is straightforward: gallery around three sides, pulpit taking centre stage. The craftsmanship is decent without being showy - lots of dark wood, clear glass windows that actually let you see what you're doing on a dull English afternoon.

It's a working church, so you can't just wander in whenever you fancy. Best bet is to rock up on a Sunday morning or contact them beforehand if you want a proper look. History enthusiasts will appreciate the solid Victorian era bones and the story of how Baptists gained real footholds in Kent market towns. For families, it's a quick stop - twenty minutes max - en route to exploring Tenterden itself, which has a proper high street with actual shops rather than chain nonsense.

If you're staying at Wood View Farm Glamping just outside town (only 2.6 miles away), you could easily combine this with a wander around Tenterden's antique shops and the steam railway. The church doesn't demand a trip on its own, but as part of a half-day exploring the town, it rounds things out nicely. Free entry as far as I'm aware, though dropping something in the box is the done thing.
