Trippet Stone Circle

Standing on Bodmin Moor with nothing but wind and bracken around you, Trippet Stone Circle hits you straight away - five granite stones arranged in a near-perfect ring, worn smooth by thousands of years and Cornish weather. Bronze Age folk put these here, roughly 3500 years back, and they're still doing their job: marking something important, though what exactly remains anyone's guess. Ceremony? Burial ground? Territorial marker? You'll spend a good twenty minutes here, walking the circle, trying to work out the stories these rocks won't tell.

Historia types will find this genuinely compelling - there's no fencing, no interpretation boards, just the stones and the moor stretching away. That means it feels real, untouched by the heritage industry, but also means you'll want to read up beforehand if you want proper context. Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones might find it quiet and a bit windswept after the first five minutes. Walkers, though - this is your territory. The location demands you arrive on foot across the open moorland, and that approach is half the appeal.

It's free and accessible year-round, though autumn and winter can be proper bleak up here. Allow about an hour if you're combining it with a moorland walk. Camp De Lank, just 2.5 miles away, is excellent for a base - proper glamping setup - or stick with Rosebud Farm if you want somewhere more traditional. Either way, you're positioned perfectly for exploring the wider moor without the tourist crush of better-known sites.
