Twin Trees - Ringo Starr and ancient hedgerow

Two gnarled trees standing side by side near Morpeth, linked by an old hedgerow and a rather unlikely claim to fame - one supposedly planted by Ringo Starr himself. Whether that's verifiable history or local legend, the trees are genuinely impressive specimens, twisted and ancient-looking, the sort of thing that makes you stop the car.

It's more of a quick stop than a destination in itself. Five minutes to have a look, take a photo, maybe read whatever information's posted nearby. The appeal lies in the oddness of it - why Ringo? How old are they really? - rather than any grand spectacle. Families won't find much to occupy the kids for long, but walkers exploring the Northumberland countryside will appreciate it as a waypoint, particularly if you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby. Riverside Rothbury, just down the road at 0.4 miles, makes a sensible base if you're serious about exploring the area.

The setting itself is proper Northumberland - open landscape, quiet roads, nothing manicured or touristy about it. Worth a detour if you're in the region already, especially if you're the sort who enjoys the slightly eccentric side of British landmarks. Just don't expect to spend an afternoon here. Combine it with a longer walk or a visit to Morpeth itself, and you've got something worth doing. On a drizzly afternoon, it's a bit brief for what it is - get in, look, move on.
