Upper Bryan's Wood

A proper woodland walk that doesn't demand much planning - that's Upper Bryan's Wood near Bridgnorth. It's the sort of place where you can actually get lost in the trees without ending up on a motorway, with decent paths that weave through old growth and plenty of space to breathe. The canopy work is genuine: tall enough to make you crane your neck, dark enough in parts that you'll want to visit when the sun's actually out.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a destination attraction where you'll spend all afternoon - more like a two-hour circuit that clears your head between other things. Families with younger kids might find it a bit samey after the first twenty minutes unless they're properly into spotting birds or collecting sticks. Photographers love it though, especially early morning when the light does something decent through the branches.

The lack of facilities means you need to sort yourself out before arriving. No visitor centre, no cafe, no obvious car park that I could find - you're going in as you find it. That's refreshing in one sense, annoying in another. Bridgnorth itself has all the amenities if you're basing yourself there.

If you're staying at Wheathill Touring Park just down the road, it's an easy detour. Slot it in as a leg-stretch between the park and exploring Bridgnorth's town centre. Worth the visit if woodland appeals to you; skip it if you need novelty or creature comforts.
