Vale’s Rock

Getting to Vale's Rock from Kidderminster means a proper walk through the Worcestershire countryside, but it's absolutely worth the leg work. The rock itself is a striking red sandstone outcrop that rises suddenly from the landscape - nothing dramatic by Peak District standards, but genuinely impressive once you're standing in front of it.

This is really walker territory. The approach takes you through farmland and woodland, and the reward is a decent vantage point across the surrounding fields. On a clear day you can see quite far. The rock has a fair bit of local history attached to it, though getting the full story requires a bit of digging online before you go - there's nothing on site to guide you through the details.

Allow a couple of hours for the walk and a proper look around. It's not a destination you'd trek out for solo, but combined with other Worcestershire walks it slots in nicely. Kids over about eight will manage it fine, though younger ones might find the actual rock bit anticlimactic after the hike.

If you're staying at Bank Farm Holiday Park just up the road, this works as a half-day outing. Bring decent boots - the path can get muddy after rain. Free, naturally, and there's usually decent car parking options near the start of the walk, though it pays to check locally first.
