Viewing Platform 1

The view from this platform across Somerset's levels is genuinely worth stopping for if you're based anywhere near Street. On a clear day, the flatness of the landscape stretches out properly - you can see for miles without anything much breaking the horizon except the Mendip Hills in the distance. It's the kind of outlook that makes you understand why this corner of Somerset feels so different from the rest of England.

There's not much to it, if I'm honest. You turn up, stand on the platform, take your photos, and that's largely your lot. Thirty minutes absolute maximum. But for walkers passing through the area - and there are decent walks around Street - it's a genuine stopping point rather than a detour. Families with small children will find it brief; anyone who likes vast, open vistas will get something from it.

The practicalities are vague - I couldn't pin down whether there's an entrance fee or opening hours listed anywhere, so best ring ahead or check locally in Street before making the journey. It sits handily between several of the touring parks in the area: Bobsfield Campsite is less than two miles away, and if you're staying at Old Oaks Touring or Castle Farm Campsite, you're only four or so miles out. Wells Touring Park, further east, is also within easy reach.

Combine it with a proper walk around the levels themselves - that's where the real draw lies. The platform view is the punctuation mark, not the whole story.
