Wallace and Gromit Statue

There's a bronze statue of Wallace and Gromit standing in Preston, and it's genuinely brilliant. The pair are rendered at full size - Wallace grinning away in his characteristic daft manner, Gromit mid-waddle beside him. It's the sort of thing that stops you in your tracks when you round the corner, especially if you've got kids in tow who've grown up on the films.

Preston's not typically top of the tourist itinerary, but this statue has become a proper focal point. The sculpture captures that slightly off-kilter charm of Aardman's creations - you can see the craftsmanship, the humour embedded in every detail. It's free to visit and you can get a decent photo without paying a penny.

The statue works best as part of a broader park-based holiday rather than a standalone trip. Both Brylea Caravan Park and Smithills View Campsite are within easy reach - under four miles away - so you could slot this into a morning wander before heading back to the caravan. Realistically, you'll spend twenty minutes here, maybe half an hour if you're taking endless photographs. Kids will find it instantly recognisable and worth a quick stop; adults who grew up with the films will get a genuine kick out of it.

It's the sort of landmark that works best in summer when you're exploring the North West more broadly. Don't make it your main event, but do include it if you're within striking distance of Preston.
