About Wallace Hill
The summit rewards you with sight lines across the Mourne Mountains to one side and down towards Strangford Lough the other. On a clear day it's genuinely impressive; on a murky one you're mostly grateful for the exercise. Families with older kids will manage the climb comfortably. Younger children might find the walk itself more interesting than hanging about at the top.
There's no visitor centre or facilities up there - bring water and a snack if you're stopping long. The path is well-trodden and free to access. Give yourself an hour including the ascent and a breather at the summit.
If you're based at Delamont Country Park just down the road, this makes an excellent morning sortie before heading back for lunch. The proximity to Downpatrick means you could easily combine it with exploring the town's medieval cathedral or Castle Ward's estate further south. It's also a solid warm-up walk if you're planning bigger days in the Mournes later in your holiday.
