Wallfurlong Rough

The forest floor at Wallfurlong Rough is thick with pine needles and moss, the kind of place where you actually want to take your time rather than rush through. It's a proper woodland walk just outside Bridgnorth, where the trees pack in tight enough to feel like you're genuinely away from it all, even if civilisation is only minutes back down the road.

What you get here is straightforward: a network of trails threading through dense coniferous forest with the occasional clearing that opens up views across the surrounding landscape. It's not dramatic in the way some woodland walks are, but there's something satisfying about it - the quiet, the smell of resin, the way light filters through in columns on a clear day.

This is the kind of place that works brilliantly if you're staying at Wheathill Touring Park just a few miles away and need a leg-stretch without the crowds of a proper tourist attraction. Families with younger kids will do fine here for an hour or so, though there's not much in the way of facilities or landmarks to hang a whole afternoon on. Serious woodland walkers might find it a bit limited unless they're chaining it together with other walks in the area.

The forest is free to wander and accessible year-round, though it can get boggy in winter depending on rainfall. Go when the weather's settled and you'll have a pleasant few hours among the conifers. Just don't expect viewpoints or facilities - bring your own supplies and a decent pair of boots.
