Wart Hill

Rising to 484 metres above the surrounding Shropshire countryside, this modest peak sits between Craven Arms and the Welsh border, offering surprisingly rewarding views for relatively little effort. The walk up takes about 45 minutes through sheep-grazed fields and along ancient drovers' tracks that once carried Welsh cattle to English markets.

Families with older children will manage the ascent comfortably, though the terrain can get boggy after rain - proper walking boots are essential. From the summit, you'll get sweeping views across the Onny Valley and towards the Long Mynd, making it well worth the climb on a clear day.

What sets this hill apart is its accessibility. Unlike some of Shropshire's more famous peaks, there's usually parking available at the base near the old railway cutting, and you're unlikely to encounter crowds even on weekends. The route isn't waymarked particularly well, so a decent map helps.
