The Thames around Marlow has been a serious watersports hub for years, and Westhorpe Watersports is right in the thick of it. This is where you go if you actually want to get on the water rather than just admire it from the bank. The Thames here is relatively calm compared to upstream, so it's manageable even if you're not a seasoned paddler.

The water itself is lovely in summer, though the current does push you along a bit if you're not careful. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you want to actually enjoy it rather than just mess about for twenty minutes. The real beauty is that you're working the stretch between Marlow and Hurley, which is genuinely scenic - proper weeping willows and tree-lined banks, the sort of thing you imagine when someone says English river.
