Weston-under-Lizard St Andrew's Church

The churchyard at Weston-under-Lizard sits quietly off the main drag, and you'll walk straight past the village without realising there's anything worth stopping for. St Andrew's is a proper medieval affair - solid, unpretentious, and honestly more interesting than its modest exterior suggests.

Inside, the church rewards those who actually step through the door. The interior has real character: decent medieval stonework, proper old glass, and the kind of worn brass plaques that make you squint to read what people were up to three centuries ago. It's not Coventry Cathedral, but for a small Staffordshire parish church, there's substance here.

You're looking at maybe thirty minutes of poking about, forty-five if you're the type to read every inscription. It's free to wander in, no faffing about with tickets or opening hours to check beforehand - just turn up and have a look. Best visited midweek when the place is empty and you can actually think.

Weston's properly small, so you won't combine this with much else in the immediate vicinity beyond a walk through the village itself. That said, if you're staying at High Onn Holiday Park just up the road, it's a decent leg-stretch destination. Shifnal's the nearest proper town if you need supplies or a coffee afterwards. The church works as a quiet break from busier attractions rather than a destination in itself, but that's precisely the point - no crowds, no gift shop, just you and several hundred years of stone.
