Wharfedale Doggy Play Park, just outside Keighley, is a straightforward off-lead space where dogs can actually be dogs: chasing, digging, splashing in water if they fancy it. No fancy equipment, no obstacles. Just grass, space, and the chance for your pooch to burn off energy without a lead attached.

It's brilliant if you're camping nearby - Olicana Park and Draughton Heights Campsite are barely down the road - and you've got a dog that needs proper exercise. Family groups often pop in mid-morning when it's quieter, though weekends get busy with the Keighley lot. Kids won't find much to keep them occupied beyond watching the dogs go mad, so it's definitely dog-focused rather than a family destination.

We'd allow 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how knackered your dog gets. The space itself isn't enormous, so if you're after a full country walk, head to Bolton Abbey Estate nearby instead - but if you just need somewhere to let your spaniel or terrier loose for a proper run around, this does the job. It's free, and there's usually somewhere to park without faff. Go early on weekends if you can, or stick to weekday afternoons when it's calmer. Winter gets muddy - very muddy - so wellies for you and a towel for the dog are essential.
