Whitby Brewery

The brewery sits right in Whitby itself, which means you can stumble in straight from the seafront without much faffing about. They craft proper Yorkshire ales here - the kind with actual character, not the mass-produced stuff you find everywhere. The space has that authentic industrial feel: exposed brick, brewing equipment visible through glass, and the sort of warmth you only get when people genuinely care about what they're making.

You'll want to allow a couple of hours if you're doing the full tour and tasting experience. Beer enthusiasts will be in their element, but honestly, even if you're not normally fussed about craft brewing, there's something compelling about watching the process unfold. The staff know their stuff and aren't pretentious about it - they'll chat to you whether you're ordering a pint or asking detailed questions about fermentation.

If you're staying at Whitby Holiday Park or Broadings Farm just down the road, this is an excellent excuse to walk into town for the evening. The nearby pubs sling their beers, so you can order a glass and know exactly where it came from. Northcliffe and Seaview are slightly further out, but still within a reasonable drive for a night out.

About the only downside: the place does get rammed during peak season and weekends. Go midweek if you can, when you'll actually have a chance to chat with the brewers. Well worth the detour if you've got any interest in local beer.
